Past Projects - University of Toronto - Max Gluskin House - Department of Economics

Designed by Hariri Pontarini Architects, this project won second place in the commercial and institutional category of Toronto’s 2009 PUG Awards, the people’s choice awards in new architecture. Max Gluskin House connects the original Victorian and Georgian Revival buildings with a glass-enclosed hallway, and a modern three-storey addition. The renovation and extension to Max Gluskin House, Department of Economics at the University of Toronto, integrates new facilities with landscaped open spaces. Heritage buildings are connected through a contemporary addition with The Corten steel cladding, and its large glass windows connect the facilities with elevated bridges. The new facility contains offices, a central gathering space, a resource centre, research spaces, meeting rooms, and graduate and faculty lounges.
