SUSTAINABILITY

In today’s world, with climate change and the associated environmental impacts of day to day living, it is important to do what we can and take all necessary steps to protect our planet and future generations. As a General Contractor, we must adhere to the drawings and specifications provided to deliver a successful project to completion, however, we have developed some strategies which are implemented when alternatives are required or requested to do our part as a sociable and sustainable company.

In past projects, working towards LEED Certification, Steelcore was able to create and adopt policies and procedures which are still currently used, to help protect the environment. We continue to review these and make changes when possible to further enhance our efforts to support the environment.

Procurement
Steelcore Construction employees are well versed in Federal and Ontario Legislation and MOE Policies and Guidelines and in turn will source and recommend alternatives that would fall in line with our environmental goals to reduce the footprint of the spaces we are creating.

Construction Waste Management Plan
By diverting construction waste to landfills and recycling materials where possible, we are reducing the
environmental impact from our construction projects. When trade contractors are awarded projects, we
remove garbage and recycling from their scope and carry the cost so we can manage the amount of debris being
sent to landfills and recyclable materials when possible.
  • Recycle land clearing debris, cardboard, metal, brick, concrete, plastic, clean wood, glass, gypsum wallboard, carpet, and insulation.
  • Designate a specific area on the construction site for recycling efforts throughout the construction process or alternately use a construction hauler and recycler to handle materials.
  • Donate reusable materials to charitable organizations such as Habitat for Humanity.

We also have taken into consideration environmental concerns by creating and implementing the following
policies:
  • LEED Management Plan
  • Land / Waterway Protection Plan
  • Effluent Water Control Plan
  • Dust Control Plan
  • Implement IAQ Management Plan
  • Erosion and Sediment Control
